Quang Ngai Province Party Secretary Vo Van Thuong visits S'pore

Singapore - Member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam and Secretary of Quang Ngai Province Party Committee Vo Van Thuong visited Singapore as the 40th Lee Kuan Yew Exchange Fellow (LKYEF) from December 2 to December 7.

While in Singapore, Party Secretary Thuong called on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister, Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs Teo Chee Hean. He was hosted to a meal by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Law K Shanmugam. Mr Thuong also met Health Minister Gan Kim Yong and Education Minister Heng Swee Keat. He received briefings by various social and economic agencies including the Ministry of Manpower, the Economic Development Board, JTC Corporation, and the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau. Mr Thuong also visited a Meet-the-People Session.

Mr Eddie Teo, Chairman of LKYEF, hosted a welcome dinner for the Vietnamese Party Secretary.

He also had a meeting with Sembcorp's management, one of the two developers of VSIP Quang Ngai in central Vietnam's Quang Ngai province. At the meeting, a US$50,000 contribution was granted to Mr Thuong as relief efforts of recent floods in the province.

Mr Thuong is the third LKYEF from Vietnam. Established in 1991, the LKYEF programme invites outstanding individuals for high-level exchange visits to Singapore. The Fellows are chosen on the basis of their proven track records or extraordinary potential to contribute to the development of their nations as well as promote international understanding and goodwill.
