VSIP sets up first community clinic in Binh Duong

  • Launch of first community clinic in Binh Duong to serve the underpriviledged villagers
  • Thousands of tenants’ employees came together to raise USD50,000 at the 9th VSIP Charity Day
Binh Duong, 16 July, 2011 – Bringing healthcare accessibility and convenience to the villagers at Binh Duong, Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park J.V.,Co., Ltd (VSIP), together with its shareholders Becamex IDC and Sembcorp, launched the first community clinic in Binh Duong, the “VSIP Community Clinic” today.

The VSIP Community Clinic, a non-profit, community health center, is an initiative of the 2011 VSIP Together Community Project. With a medical team from My Phuoc Hospital, the VSIP Community Clinic provides free first aid, medical consultation and counseling services for the medically underserved populations in the Binh Duong Province. The clinic is located in Tan Uyen District within the VSIP Binh Duong Integrated Township and Industrial Park.

To further extend its reach to more underserved villagers as well as provide medical support to those who are too ill to travel to the VSIP Community Clinic in Tan Uyen or the nearest hospital, a mobile clinic will be dispatched in the second phase of the project once awareness of the clinic has been established. This mobile clinic will consist of a medical crew traveling in an ambulance equipped with facilities and medicine to more rural villages in the surrounding area.

The clinic is funded by the VSIP Charity Fund which today celebrated its 9th Charity Day. Jointly organized by VSIP JV Company and the VSIP Management Board, the annual fun fair brings together more than 300 operational tenants of the VSIP and their workers for two fun-filled days of activities. Themed “Back to Nature”, the festival was lined up with a wide spectrum of activities, from the charity fun fair with more than 50 stores to the VSIP Beauty Pagent which crowned the “Lord” and “Fairy” of the forest dressed in creatively-designed costumes. The outdoor sports competitions like marathon and golf also attracted many participants.

This year’s fun fair raised US$50,000 which will go towards the VSIP Community Clinic and other charitable programs to support the underprivileged in Binh Duong. To ensure the sustainability of the clinic, the VSIP Charity Fund will continue to support the clinic in future years. In particular, VSIP tenant, Thermtrol from USA, contributed US$10,000 towards the VSIP Charity Fund this year in support of the clinic. Thermtrol has, in fact, faithfully contributed this sum in past charity fun fairs and has pledged to continue its contributions.

Mr Nguyen Phu Thinh, General Director of VSIP commented in his opening speech, “The issue of the lack of primary healthcare and counseling for the destitute is very pressing, especially in the rural areas. While our previous charity projects covered mainly the area of education through scholarships for underpriviledged students as well as the reconstruction of the Tan Binh Primary School, there is still another major gap unaddressed – healthcare for the underpriviledged. Our goal this year is hence to improve the underserved populations’ accessibility to basic healthcare facilities to help reduce health disparities and enhance the living standard in the area.”
